LLANDEILO v LLANELLI WANDERERS 15/01/05

The Wanderers tale of woe continued on Saturday as they failed to register a point in their 20 points to 0 defeat at the hands of fellow relegation candidates Llandeilo.

The home side adapted far better to the treacherous conditions underfoot as the pitch deteriorated as the game went on.

During the first half, the Wanderers were attempting to run the ball out of defence, but the poor underfoot conditions prevented any real headway.

Apart from the constant probing of the home outside half, there was very little play of note during the first half. In fact, credit to the Wanderers as they did well to keep out the home side as they lay siege to the Wanderers line for long periods. The back row of Stuart Jenkins, Lee Cook and Andrew Davies, especially, putting in some big hits to prevent any scores.

Half Time score            0 – 0

The second half reflected the first but unfortunately for the Wanderers, Llandeilo were able to convert their pressure into points, scoring 2 tries in the process.

As the game wore on, the Wanderers certainly missed their usual second row combination.  Iwan Jones for his lineout control and the power play of Gavin Mathias, as the usual forward platform they rely on was sadly missing today.

Once again, Karl Evans made some incisive breaks down the middle but the only real threat of a score came when a fine run by Gareth Spuffard from half way was halted inches short of the try line.

Whilst the effort of the players could not be questioned there are now serious concerns at their position in the table. They have the ability to climb away but must start producing the form the players are capable of sooner rather than later.

FINAL SCORE                       LLANDEILO              20        WANDERERS            0

The Wanderers take a break from action this Saturday as scheduled opponents Penclawdd are involved in a cup game.
