Pembroke Dock Quins v Llanelli Wanderers 23/04/05The Wanderers made the trip to Pembroke on Saturday, but were unable to secure the win needed to safeguard their Division 3 status, suffering a 19 points to 5 reverse. It was a spirited performance from the Wanderers considering their back division was decimated by withdrawals before the game. They dominated the opening 30 minutes only to see the Quins open the scoring when an attack broke down on half way it enabled the home side to clinically move into the Wanderers 22 for the first time and score a converted try, which proved the only score of the half. The second half followed the pattern of the first with the Wanderers gaining the territory but unable to convert pressure into points. Unlike their opponents who either scored on their ventures into the Wanderers 22, or were held up by some resolute defence. The only consolation for the Wanderers came with 10 minutes remaining, when the evergreen Barrie Davies showed good skill to exchange passes with center Lee Cook, round his man and make the 22 metres to the line. It had been a below par performance from the Quins, but unfortunately the Wanderers had been unable to take advantage of that. At least the fate of the Wanderers lies in their own hands, as 4 points from their remaining 3 games, of which 2 are at home and 1 away, to sides only just above them in the table would certainly secure their safety. FINAL SCORE PDQ 19 WANDERERS 5 TRY: Barrie Davies |
