LLANELLI WANDERERS RFC v MORRISTON RFC

 Saturday 10th October 2009

Even the curse of the yellow card could not prevent the Wanderers from recording their best win of the season when they overcame a strong Morriston outfit by 25 points to 18 on Saturday, scoring 4 tries and earning a bonus point in the process.

The game got off to the worst possible start when, in the opening minute, Wanderers wing Gary Peters suffered a suspected dislocated collar bone when attempting to score out wide after an excellent grubber kick from full back Nick Macey.

The Wanderers overcame this setback to play some positive rugby and were rewarded after 15 minutes when centre Karl Evans powered over for the opening score of the match. Morriston replied shortly afterwards with a try and conversion and added a further penalty to lead by 10 points to 5. Following a period of pressure on the visitors line, a catch and drive from a lineout enabled Adrian Palfrey to emerge as the try scorer. With minutes of the half remaining, Morriston converted a penalty to go in at half time leading by 13 points to 10.

Within 10 minutes of the restart the Wanderers had reasserted their lead with another try from Karl Evans, after a break by Iwan Mayze  followed by a penalty from Iwan Mayze.

The Wanderers were then pegged onto their try line for a period until hooker Daniel Nicholson emerged with the ball, took play out of the 22 and a length of the field movement then enabled wing Adam Thomas to cross under the posts with the conversion from Iwan Mayze . In the dying minutes, Morriston were rewarded for their efforts with a try but the Wanderers held out for a deserved 25 points to 18 win.

Lets hope this performance can be repeated away at Cardigan on Saturday.
