LLANELLI WANDERERS RFC v LLANYBYDDER RFC

 Saturday 24th October 2009

The Wanderers played host to a depleted Llanybydder side on Saturday and ran out winners by 28 points to 5. With the visitors arriving with only 15 players, the scrums were uncontested from the outset, a fact which certainly hindered the Wanderers effort.

The Wanderers opened the scoring with 2 penalties from the boot of full back Iwan Mayze, whilst the visitors scored their only points of the match at the end of the first quarter. The Wanderers replied shortly afterwards when some fine forward play was rewarded with a try for hooker Daniel Nicholson, converted by Iwan Mayze, who rounded off the first half with a penalty to make the score 16 points to 5.

The lack of a srummage was diluting the Wanderers efforts and a number of handling errors prevented tries when the approach work had opened up the opposition. They were finally rewarded for their efforts when, man of the match, Ashley Banfield powered over to score in the final quarter. Iwan Mayze was again successful with the conversion.

With minutes remaining Adam Thomas sprinted in for a try but with all their efforts, they could not make the fourth try and missed out on the bonus point.

Next Saturday sees a break from League action when the Wanderers travel to Ammanford for a Swalec Plate game.
