MATCH REPORT

 LLANELLI WANDERERS v BYNEA  22/11/03

Saturday saw another comfortable win for the Wanderers by 65 points to 7 against local rivals Bynea , scoring 11 tries in the process.

The Wanderers got off to a cracking start, as before your intrepid reporter took his seat, the Wanderers were 17 points up through tries from the evergreen Keith Harries, Christian Jones and Rob Jenkins (Webby's note: Our reporter missed the scintillating break through the Bynea midfield by Oliver Day, which made the try for the number 8 ). Christian was successful in converting his own try.

Following some non existant tackling from the visitors, Karl Evans was allowed to go on a 40 metre run for the Wanderers fourth try, the conversion failed.  Bynea, to their credit, kept trying to play rugby but were up against some sound defending with Johney Jones putting in some excellent line kicks.

Following a fine take on a Bynea line-out, Rob Jenkins powered forward to set up position for Oliver Day to cross for his try. Christian Jones converted.  Bynea, however closed the half the stronger but were unable to breach the Wanderers defence. Half time score 29 – 0.

Bynea started the half where they had left off before the whistle but were unable to score. And a fine kick out of defense by scrum half Andrew Jenkins enabled Johney Jones to race through, collect the kick and cross for his first try. The conversion failed.

Almost immediately , there was a repeat of the previous try only for Johney Jones to knock the ball on. However, from the scrum the Wanderers were able to steal the ball and move it along the back division for Johney Jones to make amends and pick up his second try. This time Christian was successful with the kick.

The Wanderers were beginning to play some excellent rugby and from a move started in their own half, backs and forwards , with Rob Jenkins again prominent, combined to send Oliver Day in for his second try. Christian was successful with the conversion.

Another fine run saw Johney Jones, through a non existant defence it must be said, cross under the posts for his third try of the afternoon. Conversion again missed.

The Wanderers were now scoring every time they attacked and further tries were scored by Karl Evans , following a fine run , and Gareth Rees who was on hand when Karl was held up just short of the line. Christian converted the latter try.

Oliver Day has certainly settled in to the full back role and is proving a potent force in attack.  Bynea, to their credit, did not give in and were rewarded for a period of pressure with a try on full time by their outstanding scrum half. The conversion was successful.

FINAL SCORE:  WANDERERS  65  BYNEA     7

Tries:  K.Evans (2), J.Jones( 3), R.Jenkins, K.Haries, C.Jones, G.Rees, O.Day(2)

Conversions:  Christian Jones (5)
