MATCH REPORT

LLANELLI WANDERERS v PEMBOKE DOCK QUINS  18/10/03

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately !!!, your intrepid reporter is unable to bring a detailed match report this week. The report, along with other items, is traveling Llanelli in the back of a white taxi, having been left there on Saturday night !

Saturday saw the visit of the unbeaten Quins to Stradey on a perfect afternoon for open rugby. Reports had indicated that the three-quarters of the opposition were a formidable unit so an interesting contest was in prospect.

The game started at a cracking pace with both teams intent on an expansive game, however the omens were not looking good when the opposition wing received the ball to go on a swerving run past defenders to score.

However, once the Wanderers got their game plan going, backs and forwards were combining well and denying the Quins the possession they needed.

First half tries were scored by Gareth “ London”, Oliver Day and Karl Evans to enable the Wanderers to close the half 15 – 7 up.

The Wanderers opened the scoring in the second half with a try, and a rare conversion, both by center Stuart Prendaville, who is beginning to show the form he is capable of.

Tries were then exchanged by both sides. The Wanderers try coming from another new recruit in hooker Daniel Evans who has returned to the club and is a  welcome addition to  the front row union in particular.  27 – 12

Following a fine break into the heart of the Wanderers 22 by the Quins hooker, the pressure finally told for the visitors to obtain a touch down and conversion.  27 – 19.

The Quins were beginning to exert some pressure, sensing that they could perhaps win the game.

Their hopes were finally dashed however, when the youngster Dorrian Lee powered over for a try to seal the game for the Wanderers.

The Wanderers still have work to do on their set piece plays if they are to threaten League leaders Llandybie, but if they can string 80 minutes of their best together, get a reliable Goal kicker and get all players fit and available, they will surely have a squad to match any team in the division.

FINAL SCORE: Wanderers 32  Pembroke Dock Quins 19

Tries: G.Rees, O.Day, K.Evans, S.Prendaville, D.Evans, D.Lee

Conversions: Stuart Prendaville ( 1)
