Festival of Rugby 2005

Over the weekend 2nd and 3rd April 2005 we held our 14th Mini and Junior Rugby Festival.

The weather was good to us on both days but Saturday was undoubtedly the best day with glorious sunshine and warm temperatures.

We had entries in all competitions from a total of 113 teams, from 34 Clubs. In addition to” local clubs” we also had entries from Beddau, Bonymaen, Brecon, Builth Wells, Cheltenham, Cwmafan, Dunvant, Havant, Llandeilo, Mold, Moortown, Nelson, Newcastle Emlyn,Pentyrch, Pontyclun,Rhiwbina, Stockport, Tonmawr, and Whitland.

We feel that the Festival was again a great success but we wouldn’t have succeeded without the help of the parents, players, family members and coaches of the Club who gave their time over the weekend. We must also say a big thank you to Mr Paul Fisher, Dragon Development Officer, WRU, who assisted us both in loaning post protectors, flags and equipment for the Festival and also by refereeing a number of games.

A big thanks you to Coleg Sir Gar and Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade for the use of their pitches etc. We must also thank our Trophy Sponsors, G M Plastering, FR. Wordwide Distribution, and Furnace Post Office and Stores and our Programme sponsors, Llanelli Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic (@ The Grange Health and Fitness Club), Davies and Craddock, J.W.Motors, Peter’s Plumbing Supplies Ltd., Secure –Rite, Scorpion Motor Cycles, Campaillas, Castell Howell Foods Ltd, Dewi Meats, Halfway Car Sales, GMF Motor Factors, Parker Plant Hire, Sprint-Fit (Cymru) JAJA Enterprises, Manhattan Marketing and Celtic Computing Services. A big thanks you also to the referees from all the clubs who assisted. A special thank you has to go to the referees from the Felinfoel, Tumble and Penygroes clubs who helped tirelessly over the 2 days. We will do the same for you.

The Results of the finals of the competitions are as follows:

Under 8’s Winners - Pontyberem who beat Burry Port, after a “golden try” in extra time, by 7 tries to 6.

Under 9’s Winners - Kidwelly who beat Llanelli Wanderers by 10 points to 5, after extra time.

Under 10’s Winners – Llanelli Wanderers who beat Pontyberem 10 points to nil - See photo at bottom of page
