Under 10’s Tour to Hilversham International Rugby Festival Our Under 10’s have just returned from an extremely successful Tour to Holland over the Easter weekend. The aims of the tour organisers were to develop the skills of the players in an alternative rugby playing environment and to foster rugby playing links with other countries – embracing the wanderers philosophy, seeking” Friendship through Wandering” and to spread the good name of Llanelli wanderers around Europe making good friends and contacts in the process. Through hard work and numerous fund raising activities All children toured free of charge. In addition a full kit, track suit and T shirts were provided for each player for a cost of just £10.00 each. On the rugby field the team had an excellent weekend. Not only did they win against Dutch opposition WRC Haaglanden by 55 points to nil they also represented Llanelli Wanderers and Wales at the Hilversum International Youth Rugby Tournament (near Amsrerdam). At the Festival 1200 players took part from countries including Ukraine, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, England, and Scotland. At the Festival our players competed against teams from Belgium (RC Sckilde – won 25points to 10) Holland (RC Hilversum –won 25 points to 10) and England (Overton – won 10 points to nil) and eventually won the Festival. Our sincere congratulations go out to the coaches and the team. Very Well Done Boys and Girls. The successful Under 10’s Team will parade their Trophy at the opening of our Festival of Rugby on 22nd April. The winning however did not stop there. The Under 10’s Coach, Adrian Evans’ son won a Mountain Bike in the raffle. We all hope his ankle gets better soon so he can ride it. In addition to the winning team our congratulations go out to all those who organised this tour. The feedback given to Committee members by the Under 10’s parents we’ve spoken to is extremely positive, everyone enjoyed and the standard of accommodation was excellent. Under 10’s Issues Following concerns the Committee met with representatives of parents from the Under 10’s on Wednesday 19th April. The Chairman on behalf on the Committee congratulated them on a successful tour and confirmed that the Tour had been sanctioned with the full blessing of the Committee. Extremely productive discussions took place about the future of the alternative Web site / Fan Zone and a way forward was agreed. The Committee and Under 10’s representatives will meet in a fortnight when they will bring forward proposals for opening the Fan Zone in order that it may be used by our other teams. Another issue raised was the rumour that the Under 10’s were moving to another local team at the start of next seasons. The Committee received firm assurances from the representatives that they were fully committed to the Wanderers and that there was absolutely no truth in this rumour. The representatives requested that their commitment to the Wanderers be highlighted by the Committee to other teams of the Mini and Junior Section via the Junior News Section. The Committee fully accepted these assurances and ask now that these rumours stop and that we get back to what is important – Our Players playing and enjoying the game of Rugby.
