Junior Club News 2004/2005Presentation Nights

In addition to all Players receiving a Trophy from Ceiron Thomas, Llanelli Scarlets, Awards were also made to the following: Player of the Year Tom Phillips Most Improved Player Taylor Davies Clubman of the Year Berian Rees In recognition of the achievements of the Team over the past Season, Chris Beer, Chairman, presented Keith Harries, Coach, with the “Strasden Joinery” Team of the Year Award. Over the past season the team had only lost one and drawn one game. They were runners up in the Felinfoel Tournament, Semi Finalists in the Kidwelly Tournament and won our Festival of Rugby in April. Well done and more of the same next season. This is the second time in three years for the boys of this team to win this award having done so when they were at Under 8.The Under 12’s held their Presentation Night on Friday 10th June. Details of the awards are below: Player of the Year – Ceri Roberts Most Improved Player – Rhys Phillips Clubman of the Year – Luke Treharne A special award most also awarded to Jordan Williams for his achievements during the season. Bryn Griffiths of the Llanelli Scarlets presented the Awards. Gavin Quinnell assisted him. On Saturday 11th June the Under 8’s and Under 9’s held their Presentation Night. Under 8’s awards: Player of the Year – Callum Harries Most Improved Player – Luke Pike Clubman of the Year – Daniel Isaac Under 9’s awards Player of the Year – Nathan Rees Most Improved Player – Lewis Davies Clubman of the Year – Mischa Lloyd Garran Evans of Llanelli Scarlets presented the awards Our thanks to the Llanelli Scarlets players for their attendance. A reminder that the Under 10’s will hold their Presentation Night on Friday 17th June. Trimsaran RFC – Jonathan Davies 7’s – 29th May On Sunday 29th May our 9’s and 11’s attended the Trimsaran Sevens Tournament. Both Teams progressed to the Semi Finals of their respective age groups without losing a match. The Under 9’s played Burry Port in a very close game but lost in extra time to a “golden try. Burry Port eventually won the competition. Our Under 11’s unfortunately lost to New Dock Stars in the Semi Final of their age group. New Dock Stars subsequently lost to Cowbridge in the Final. Well done to both teams who played some excellent flowing rugby on the day.End of Season Festivals / Matches On Monday 2nd May (May Day Bank Holiday) our Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and12’s attended the Burry Port Tournament. Unfortunately due to torrential rain the Tournament was cancelled. Kidwelly Juniors held their Tournament on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May. Our Under 11’s were unable to attend on 7th because it clashed with the Konica Cup Final in Cardiff. On Sunday 8th our 8’s, 9’s, and 10’s attended. The Under 9’s reached the Semi Final where they lost to Felinfoel by 4 tries to 3. The Under 10’s also reached the Semi Final where they lost to Pontyberem by 3 tries to nil. On Thursday 12th May our Under11’s played Felinfoel. In a fast and open game they lost by 35 points to 14. On Sunday 29th May our 9’s and 11’s will be attending the Trimsaran Sevens Tournament. A reminder to all that teams must be registered by 10.30 a.m. with the first matches kicking off at 11.00 a.m. We wish both teams good luck. Presentations Nights As the Season draws to a close our teams have arranged our Presentation Nights at the Electricity Club. In date order they will be held on: Under 12’s – Friday 10th June Under 8’s and 9’s – Saturday 11th June Under 10’s – Friday 17th June Under 11’s – Saturday 25th June Llanelli Wanderers R.F.C. Mini and Junior Section Annual General Meeting Please note that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 26th June 2005 at 7.00 p.m. in the Llanelli Electricity Club. All parents are asked to make every effort to attend. Results Sunday 24th April An excellent weekend for all our teams. The Under 8’s didn’t have a game. The Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s played away at Carmarthen Athletic and all won. The Under 9’s by 8 tries to nil The Under 10’s by 30 points to nil and the Under 11’s by 43 points to nil. The Under 12’s played at home against Bonymaen and drew 19 points all.Results Sunday 17th April Mixed Fortunes for our sides this weekend. The Under 8’s and Under 9’s played away in Tumble. The Under 8’s lost by 9 tries to 10. The Under 9’s won by 4 tries to 1. The Under 10’s didn’t have a game today. The Under 11’s played at home against Newcastle Emlyn and lost by 47 points to 28. The Under 12’s were also home and played Felinfoel. In a very close game where they scored a try in the last few minutes they won by 15 points to 14.Annual Tours Over the weekend of 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th April the Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, and 11’s were on tour in Tenby. During the tour we played against Tenby United and scored wins at every age group. The Under 11’s played on Friday 8th and won by 25 points to 10. Thanks must go out to the Under 10’s players who helped make up the side. The remaining games were played on Sunday 10th. The Under 8’s won by 5 tries to 4. The Under 9’s won by 15points to 5 and the Under 10’s won 25 points to 10. An excellent time was had by all. The highlights being the traditional parents versus boys soccer cum rugby cum American Football match on Saturday morning and the get together on Saturday in fancy address as pirates. See a photo of the ladies on tour here. The Tour was a great success and we thank Tenby United for the hospitality afforded to the players, coaches and parents. Our thanks, again, to (young!) Keith Harries, Mini Secretary, for organising the Tour. Over the same weekend our Under 12’s were on Tour at Porthcawl. They didn’t play a match but our Junior Secretary advises that good time was had by all. Our thanks to Alan Jenkins Junior Secretary for organising this Tour. Festival of Rugby 2005 - To see a report on the festival click here. End of Season Tours Over the weekend of 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th April the Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, and 11’s will be on tour in Tenby. This year’s theme is Pirates. All those over playing age must carry a toothbrush and peg at all times. Pegging is allowed. Absence of these items can and will result in walking the plank, keelhauling and flogging. Hywel Rees (Under 10’s) is drawing up a “Voyage Itinery” which I’m sure will include some cultural activities. These will be circulated to all those embarking on this trip. The Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s played away at Burry Port. The Under 9’s won 1 try to nil. The Under 10’s won 14 points to nil and the Under 11’s drew 14 points all. Scarlet Regional Cup Our Under 12’s played Newcastle Emlyn away in the first round of the Scarlets Regional Cup and lost 31 points to 12.Results Sunday 6th March 2005 Because of Mother’s Day the Under 8’s, competition at Carmarthen Athletic and the Under 10’s and 11’s fixtures at home against Llangennech were cancelled. The Under 9’s however played Llangennech at home and won 3 tries to 1. The Under 12’s also played Llangennech at home and won 65 points to nil. Scarlet Regional Cup On Sunday 13th March our Under 12’s play Newcastle Emlyn away in the first round. We all wish the boys Good Luck!!!! Festival of Rugby To date we have had entries from more than 100 teams across all age group competitions. We are therefore unable to accept any further entries for the Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s competitions. We still have spaces in the Under 13,14,15 and 16 competitions. Entries received to date have been from the Rhiwbina, Beddau, Brecon, Cwmafan, Pentyrch, Tonmawr, Newcastle Emlyn, Llandeilo, Dunvant, Buith Wells, Cheltenham, Stockport, Moortown, Felinfoel, Kidwelly, Tumble, Tycroes, Trimsaran, New Dock Stars, Pontyberem, Bonymaen, Burry Port, Bynea, Llangennech, Whitland, and Pontyates.Results Sunday 27th February 2005 The Under 8’s played away at a Tag Festival at Home against Felinfoel and Furnace. They won against Felinfoel and drew with Furnace. The Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s played away at Bonymaen. The Under 9’s won 2 tries to nil. The Under 10’s won 57 points to nil. The Under 11’s lost 59 points to nil. Scarlet Regional Cup Congratulations to the Under12’s. The played Pontyberem in the Preliminary Round of the Scarlet Cup and won 38 points to nil. They now play away at Newcastle Emlyn in the first round. The game has provisionally been arranged for Sunday 13th March. We all wish the boys Good Luck!!!! Rescheduled Fixture The Under 12’s home game against Llangennech, postponed on 27th February because they were playing in the Scarlets Cup has been rearranged for Sunday 6th March.Results Sunday 20th February 2005 The Under 8’s played away at a Tag Festival at Bynea and played against Bynea and Kidwelly. They won against Kidwelly and drew with Bynea. The Under 9’s and 10’s played at home against Newcastle Emlyn. The Under 9’s won 6 tries to 2. The Under 10’s won 38 points to nil. The Under 11’s did not have a match because Newcastle Emlyn were unable to field a side as a result of Schoolboy commitments. The Under 12’s didn’t have a game because it was a District weekend. Six Nations Rugby A reminder that on Saturday 26th February we have arranged a parents afternoon / evening at the club to watch the Scotland v Italy game – kick off at 2.00p.m. and France v Wales game kick off at 4.00pm. There will be a free buffet for Mini and Junior parents. Scarlet Regional Cup Our under 12’s have been drawn at home in the Preliminary round of the Scarlet Regional Cup against Pontyberem. The match has been arranged for Sunday 27th March and not 6th March as previously detailed. Rescheduled Fixture Because our Under 12’s are playing in the Scarlet Cup the home game against Llangennech, arranged for that date will now be played a week on Sunday, the 6th March.Results Sunday 13th February 2005 Due to the bad weather the Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s games at home against Kidwelly were cancelled. Under 12’s played away at Burry Port and lost 5 points to 36. The Under 8’s played away at a Tag Festival at Burry Port and played against Burry Port and Furnace. Details of results are awaited. Sponsorship Under 11’s We would like to say big thank you to Celtic Computer Services (CCS) who have agreed to sponsor Tracksuits for the Under 11’s. On behalf of the players, coaches and parents of the Under 11’s we would like to thank Mr David Leung and Chris Dumpleton the partners in Celtic Computer Services. Six Nations Rugby On Saturday 26th February we have arranged a parents afternoon / evening at the club to watch the Scotland v Italy game – kick off at 2.00p.m. and France v Wales game kick off at 4.00pm. There will be a free buffet for Mini and Junior parents. You are welcome to bring a guest although there will be a nominal charge of £1.00 to cover the cost of the buffet. Come along and support Wales - It’s going to be a great afternoon!!!!!!! Scarlet Regional Cup Our under 12’s have been drawn at home in the Preliminary round of the Scarlet Regional Cup against Pontyberem. The match has been arranged for Sunday 6th March.Results Sunday 6th February 2005 An excellent day for our Mini and Junior sides - all our teams played at home today. The Under 8’s played against New Dock Stars in a Mini Festival. Felinfoel Under 8’s failed to turn up for the Festival. The Under 9,s 10,s and 11’s played Llandeilo and the Under 12’s Newcastle Emlyn. The Under 8’s played 2 games against New Dock Stars and won one and drew one. The Under 9’s won 2 tries to 1. The Under 10’s won 47 points to 7. The Under 11’s won 26 points to 19. The Under 12’s won 47 points to nil. Festival of Rugby 2nd and 3rd April 2005 The Mini and Junior Section Committee would like to thank those parents who attended a parents meeting at the club on Sunday 30th January. As a result of the meeting we have had a number a volunteers to help with the running of the Festival and sponsorship for trophies and / or the programme. We need more volunteers as we need as much help as we can over the 2 days of the Festival and also on Friday 1st April, when we will be marking out the fields, erecting the stalls etc., and possibly on Monday 4th April when we will be doing a final clean up and be returning hired items. If you want to volunteer to help please see your coaches or a Mini and Junior Committee member. Please remember that any profits from the Festival will be channelled back into Mini and Junior teams. A further meeting will be arranged closer to the Festival. We also hope to arrange a parents social afternoon / evening during the 6 Nations. Your coaches will have more information when the date is confirmed. We are still receiving enquiries for entry into the Festival. At present we have teams coming from Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, the Midlands, North Wales, Cardiff and Pontypridd area as well as local teams from the Carmarthenshire and Swansea areas. More information will be posted on the web site in due course. Results Sunday 30th January 2005 Alternative fixtures had to be arranged hastily due to Trimsaran postponing their away fixtures against our Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s and Tycroes postponing their home fixture with our Under 12’s. As a result alternative matches were found for the Under 9’s and 10’s but unfortunately we were unable to find matches for the Under 11’s and 12’s. The Under 8’s played in a mini festival at home and won against Bynea but lost against Carmarthen Quins. The Under 9’s played home against Morriston and lost by 2 tries to 3. The Under 10’s played at home against Penclawdd and won 49 points to 7. Under 15’s Team It is with regret that we must announce that due to lack on numbers attending training sessions and turning up for matches the decision has been made to disband the team. The Welsh Rugby Union and Llanelli Wanderers “Senior” Committee have been informed of this decision. The disbanding of the team means we lose an excellent and dedicated coach. The Mini and Junior Committee would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to Mike Jones (Older) for his dedication and commitment in trying to maintain the Under 15’s side this season and also thank him for his commitment to teams within the Mini and Junior section over a number of years. We wish him every success in the future. We would also like to thank the players and parents of the Under 15’s for their support over the years. We hope that ex-players will continue playing rugby and wish them every success with their new clubs. Llanelli Wanderers are hoping to set up a youth team from next season and it is hoped that ex-players from the Under 15’s will return to the Wanderers to play youth rugby. Six Nations Draw A reminder that the Six Nations “predict the result” forms distributed by your coaches must be returned to coaches or a Committee member before Saturday 5th February. The winner of the most accurate predictions will receive £100. Formal invitations will be sent out later this week and early next week. The closing date for entries is 5th March 2005. A meeting with parents will be arranged in the New Year to discuss Festival. The Under 9’s and 10’s played away against Felinfoel and experienced mixed fortunes. Our Under 9’s won 2 tries to nil. The Under 10’s lost 14points to 12 in a very closely contested match. .
