Penclawdd v Llanelli Wanderers 10/12/05The Wanderers returned from the Gower having suffered at the hands of league leaders Penclawdd to the tune of a 44 points to 5 drubbing. With player coach Daniel Rogers declaring himself unavailable and the non arrival of prop Lee Jones, the mood in the camp was not at its best before kick off. When the Wanderers realise they are a match for any team in the division, they may lose the lethargy which often blights them in big games. Whilst the players cannot be faulted for their effort, the inability to find touch out of defence meant they were always playing the game on the back foot and invariably launching attacks from their own 22. When the Wanderers pulled the score back to 12 -5 thanks to a try by Mike Rees, again instigated by a fine burst from Leighton Williams and Karl Evans, supporters hoped the tide would turn and although Penclawdd increased their lead the Wanderers finished the half strongly following some brilliant interplay between Mark Cook and Mike Rees which went the length of the field and only misfortune prevented a score. Half Time score 19 – 5. The second half, however, was one way traffic as the Wanderers found it increasingly difficult to get out of their half and create any pressure on the home team. Penclawdd finished with 7 tries in total and it was a very dispirited Wanderers team that left the field. It is hoped the team can regroup for another tough encounter at home to Aberystwyth on Saturday.
