Llanelli Wanderers v Tenby United 04/03/06

 Saturday saw the Wanderers produce a below par performance which resulted in them being somewhat fortunate to share the spoils.

The Wanderers were completely disjointed in the opening half and allowed the bigger visitors pack to dictate matters. The Wanderers only reply to 2 forward orientated tries from Tenby was via a penalty from Shaun Thomas. The only positive point from the half was the return of centre Gareth Jones after injury and his contribution to the game.

As has been the bane for a number of games, again the Wanderers were guilty of giving far too many penalties away in good attacking positions.  The half closed with the visitors leading 13 points to 3 and the Wanderers lucky to be only 10 points behind.

The Wanderers did perk up in the second period and were able to exert far more pressure on the visitors with some enterprising play from backs and forwards.  From an early attack, the Wanderers were awarded a penalty just inside the Tenby half from which Shaun Thomas was successful in adding 3 points.

A fine break down the middle by Karl Evans set up position and following a series of forward drives, Jonathan Hope powered over only for the referee to disallow a perfectly good try.

The Wanderers were now well on top and another fine break from Karl Evans was only halted inches from the line.

The pressure did however pay dividends when following a series of forward drives and infringements by the visitors, the ball came back for outside half Daniel Rogers to crash over near the posts. Shaun Thomas converted to level the scores.

With the subsequent yellow carding of their influential number 8 for a high tackle, any hopes of an away victory diminished and, although now well on top, the Wanderers were unable to find that elusive score to win the game.

Following a break for the Internationals, the Wanderers next match will be against promotion seeking Trimsaran, where they will certainly need to be at their best to come away with any sort of result.
