Llanelli Wanderers v Penclawdd 15/03/06A fine Wednesday evening saw the semi final of the Tovali Bowl competition take place at Gowerton, between the division 3 rivals. Unfortunately the Wanderers were outplayed for long periods, with the big Penclawdd pack laying the foundation for victory by 46 points to 10. The opening exchanges had been quite even, with Penclawdd leading by 2 penalties to 1 from Shaun Thomas. A superb pick up, off his toes, by Mark Cook saw the winger power forward from half way to within 10 meters of the try line. The resulting pressure yielded a penalty, which unfortunately was missed from in front of the posts. The tide then turned with the big Penclawdd forwards dominating the forward exchanges resulting in a penalty try and 2 others for the three-quarters. The half closed with Penclawdd leading by 27 points to 3. Within minutes of the restart, Penclawdd increased their lead with a converted try but the Wanderers hit back with some excellent interplay between Mark Cook and Karl Evans. Flanker David Evans charged forward from a ruck and his kick ahead set up a period of pressure which saw Daniel Rogers finally crash over for a try, converted by Shaun Thomas. Whilst Penclawdd hit back with 2 further tries, the Wanderers effort should be commended, in particular coaches James Bannister and Daniel Rogers who led from the front and were outstanding in defence and in trying to take the game to their opponents right up to the final whistle.
