Amman United v Llanelli Wanderers 15/04/06The Wanderers returned from Glanamman having secured a well deserved victory by 48 points to 15, scoring 8 tries in the process. The Wanderers got off to the worst possible start when their kick off went direct to touch and were penalised from the resulting scrum. Fortunately, the penalty kick from half way failed. Amman`s intent to get points on the board was evident with 2 further penalty attempts from half way being unsuccessful. There was no real pattern in the opening 10 minutes which was played out between both 22`s. Leighton Williams in the centre then sparked the first purposeful move of the game when he burst down the middle. The move was continued by James Bannister, with Steffan Rogers making the decisive break down the touchline. He offloaded for Christian Jones to canter in under the posts. Daniel Rogers was successful with the conversion. The Amman forwards were competing well, with the outside half kicking for position, however, the Wanderers were playing the game at pace with forwards and backs combining well. Two powerful bursts from Karl Evans enabled wing Mark Cook to show his pace and sprint in for 2 tries with the only response from Amman being a penalty. The half ended with a fine break by Andrew Jenkins at scrum half, taken on once again by Karl Evans, only for the final pass to go astray with the try-line begging. Half time score Amman 3 Wanderers 19 Amman started the second half with a bang, and some fine recycling by the forwards created space for the full back to exploit and score in the corner. This come-back was however short lived as the Wanderers then cut loose with 4 excellent tries sparked by Daniel Rogers at outside half. A burst from Leighton Williams set up a Daniel Rogers try, who then broke out from his 22 to set up speedster Mark Cook to run in unopposed for his hat-trick try. An excellent break by Steffan Rogers , who has now re-discovered his best form and almost piped his brother for man of the match, from his own half set up bursts from Jonathan Hope and finally Daniel Nicholson to cross. Daniel Rogers then completed a scintillating period of rugby by standing his opposite number up, and cruising in from half way. To their credit, Amman kept plugging away and were finally rewarded when their prop crashed over, with an excellent conversion from wide out. Amman continued to press, but were finally broken when Karl Evans intercepted to run in under the posts from half way to conclude an excellent performance from the Wanderers, where the pace amongst the backs had proven to be the deciding factor. The Wanderers now face 4 of the top 6 sides as they conclude a season where performance has far exceeded expectations FINAL SCORE AMMAN UNITED 15 WANDERERS 48 TRY: Christian Jones, Mark Cook (3), Daniel Rogers (2). Daniel Nicholson, Karl Evans CONVERSION: Daniel Rogers (2), Christian Jones (2) |
