PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS v LLANELLI WANDERERS 01/10/05Following an abject first half performance, the Wanderers suffered there first defeat of the season at the hands of the Quins on Saturday. Winning the toss, the Wanderers decided to play into a strong wind and continued to gift points to the home side by means of non existent tackling and poor line kicking. Supporters should have guessed it was going to be their day when the referee yellow carded Wanderers no.8, Jonathan Mayze after 6 minutes !!! The Quins backs and forwards were combining well and with the lack of tackling, soon ran in 5 tries which included a penalty try after taking the ball from the kick off and sweeping down field. With just over 5 minutes of the half remaining, a mass brawl finally awoke the Wanderers from their slumber when 3 of the home side and 1 from the visitors were yellow carded. Within 30 seconds of the restart, the home scrum half was also yellow carded, making it six yellow cards before half time !!!! The Wanderers still proceeded to make heavy weather of breaking down the home team, amazingly losing 1 scrum against the head and kicking needlessly when they had numerical advantage off 14 against 11. A lost cause improved slightly when Gareth Spuffard crossed wide out just on half time. Half time score QUINS 29 WANDERERS 5 A reshuffled midfield and the wind at their backs meant a much improved second half performance from the Wanderers as centre Daniel Rogers showed what he could do with possession, when he rounded his opposite number to cross at the posts. Conversion by Shaun Thomas. 29 - 12 However, the home team hit back with a penalty and when a Wanderers attack broke down, the home team went the length of the field for an excellent try. 37 – 12 When Richard Clement received the ball wide out in the opposition 22, play just opened up in front of him to cross unopposed. 37 – 17 Whilst having the satisfaction of winning the second half, their failure to keep the score within touch of the home team into the wind meant it was an impossible task for the Wanderers to get back on terms. It is just hoped that lessons are learnt before the visit next week of title favorites Llangefni to the Wanderers. FINAL SCORE PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 37 WANDERERS 17 TRY: Gareth Spuffard, Daniel Rogers, Richard Clement CONVERSION: Shaun Thomas
